60 - 30 - 10

The 60-30-10 rule is a classic interior design guideline that helps create balanced and visually appealing colour schemes in a room. Here's how it works:

  1. 60% Dominant Colour: This is the main colour of the room, typically applied to larger areas such as walls, rugs, or large furniture pieces like sofas. It sets the overall tone and creates a unified backdrop for the space.

  2. 30% Secondary Colour: This colour supports the dominant colour but adds contrast and interest. It’s usually applied to furniture, textiles, or accent walls. The secondary colour should complement the dominant colour but offer enough difference to make the room dynamic.

  3. 10% Accent Colour: The accent color is used sparingly to add visual impact and personality. It’s often seen in decorative items like throw pillows, artwork, or small accessories. The accent colour can be bold or subtle, depending on the desired effect.

This rule helps us as designers maintain a balanced and cohesive look while incorporating variety and interest through the use of colorur.
